Three ladies, Mrs. Clementine Hunter, Mrs. Mary Ott, and Mrs. Emma Thorn prayed that God would send a man to start a Bible-believing work in the town of Newberry. In July of 1939, Rev. Fred Kinkle came to Newberry believing God called him to start a work. This was an answer to prayer and the beginning of First Baptist Church. Over the past 75 years God has richly blessed First Baptist Church with godly pastors and people serving together for the glory of God. It is our fervent prayer that God will continue to use this body of believers as a beacon to light the paths of Newberry that those lost in the darkness of sin might see the true and living light in Jesus Christ.
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." - Matthew 5:14-15
